A Question to Ask at the End of an Interview

You’re in the final moments of your interview. You’ve done well enough and there’s been a decent ‘back-and-forth’ between you and your interviewers. It’s your time to own the conversation, and all you have to say is, “No, I don’t think so.” If you never seem to have a question to ask at the end of an interview, this article will help position you as a thoughtful candidate and set you a part from the rest of the herd.

Questions to Ask at the End of Every Interview

  1. In your opinion, what sets apart the employees that thrive in this company?
    • You immediately show your desire to align with the over achievers in the company.
    • You show you plan to add value to the team.
    • You establish a personal connection because you’re asking for their personal opinion.
      • This is unique as it’s not a question about company policies or job description bullet points.
  2. What does the first 30 days look like in the role?
    • You force the interviewer to envision you in the role.
    • By doing so, they envision your training, your on boarding, introductions, etc.
  3. What do you love most about working here?
    • Bosses love this question because they love to share their own opinions.
    • You also double down on another personal connection question by asking their opinion this way.
    • Additionally, if they can’t answer this one honestly, the job is likely a red flag.
  4. What challenges is your team/the company working through right now?
    • This illustrates your understanding that every job has its challenges.
      • In the interviewers mind, this aligns you as someone who will tackle challenges head on, and not simply complain about them.
